We were thrilled to be able to help create some beautiful, bespoke mattresses for this Princess and the Pea inspired set. The beautiful hand cast, bespoke Clifton bed was created by our sister company, The Cornish Bed Company to create the perfect fairy tale setting.

The Naturalmat Way - Sourcing materials and product quality

Following on from our last discussion with Naturalmat Co-founder Mark Tremlett, we explore sourcing materials and product quality.

How do you source your materials?

“We look at our suppliers very much holistically. The fact that their materials are right for us, is very much the start of the journey. There are many factors we then have to consider…do our suppliers operate in an ethical and sustainable way? Do our suppliers look after their staff and share our ethical approach? Frankly it’s not straight forward finding these partners and they very rarely offer the cheapest offering, but it’s a process that is ultimately fulfilling and we’ve ended up with business partners who we trust implicitly”

What do you consider to be the most important facet of your products?

“I often cite quality above sustainability as being the number one principle of our business simply because we believe the two things are completely symbiotic. Poor quality leads to a reduction in the lifespan of any product and it is this limited lifecycle which generates further production requirement. Ultimately if our products last, that this in itself has the biggest impact on reducing resource and energy requirement.”

Industry Latest – Hilton Worldwide Makes Changes to Improve Animal Welfare in Supply Chain

Hilton Worldwide has announced plans to stop buying food from companies, which use cages for egg-laying chickens and gestation crates for breeding pigs.

“We are committed to addressing key issues throughout our business and supply chain and responsibly serving our guests and communities in a range of areas,” said Jennifer Silberman, VP, Corporate Responsibility, McLean, Va.-based Hilton Worldwide. “With more than 2,000 restaurants in our global footprint, our goal is to have a considerable impact on sustainable sourcing in our industry as well as drive humane treatment of animals throughout our supply chain.”

Hotels in the Hilton Hotels & Resorts, Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts, Conrad Hotels & Resorts, Canopy by Hilton and DoubleTree by Hilton brands will be required to switch to buying product from suppliers who provide eggs from cage-free chickens by Dec. 31, 2017. Meanwhile, all pork products will be required to be purchased from suppliers that house breeding pigs in groups rather than gestation crates by Dec. 31, 2018.

Last year, Hilton announced a global ban of the sale of shark fin in all owned and managed properties. These actions are part of the company’s global responsible sourcing strategy.
